From March to September we spend a fair amount of time re-turfing lawns in Brighton and Hove. There are three main factors which affect a lawn’s condition, light, bad soil and general ware and tare. If a lawn has poor light and is in shade this will affect your lawns performance to grow well. As an example a lawn should really be treated like a house plant, it needs a good light position, good healthy soil and must be fed from time to time.
Bad soil, or just old warn out soil doesn’t help. Your ground might be water logged due to what is underneath it or carrying stones. These will in time surface and show in the grass; affecting it’s look and health. Lastly ware and tare, children constantly playing or feet walking on grass regularly cause grass to weaken, get tired and ware out completely – leaving areas of bald patches.
Leaving us to come in and take a look at the problem. Firstly we’ll check the light situation, tree’s, roots, shade etc..Soil, what’s the condition like? Sometimes better spending the extra money and placing some organic top soil down. Preparing is the hardest part, laying nice new turf is the easy bit. Speak to us about ways of improving your soil and re-turfing, it’s probably not going to be as expensive as you might think! We don’t recommend seed unless it’s a tiny patch. With seed – you battle against the weather and wildlife scratching around.
